I started dreaming about moving to Belize years ago. It was a fuzzy far-off dream with lots of “one day” scenarios. I didn’t particularly take it seriously in the beginning. I was too busy running around trying to manage the life I was living at the time. Raising kids, running a business, managing people, places and things. Barely keeping my head above water financially. Busy with projects, hobbies, assignments, activities, deadlines… with no end in sight.

Sound familiar?

I look back at all the hectic years and wonder how I ever managed it all. I was tired a lot. I didn’t take care of myself as well as I should have. Heck, to be honest, I was so busy taking care of others that I put my needs dead last. I gained weight. I dealt with anxiety issues. I had bouts of depression. I didn’t sleep well. I had high blood pressure. I was a mess!

Why? Because I put my dreams on hold. I didn’t feel deserving of a better life and I didn’t know what to do about it. From an early age I bought in to the idea that I should be happy with whatever life “throws” at me. I felt like I had no control over what came my way.

I was just bobbing along in the river of life and occasionally I would bump into a big boulder and get sucked under for awhile.

Once in a blue moon I would drift over to the shore and settle on a soft bed of moss or bask on a little sandy cove. Ahhh… I could rest. Breathe for awhile. But then the river would rise again and I was swept away without any control over the timing and next obstacle.

Have you ever bought into the idea that you have no control over your destiny? If so, I’d like to tell you with all the conviction in my heart that it’s just not so!

You can create your reality. Every single bit of it.

In fact, you’ve been doing it all along. That awful relationship you finally ended a while back? Yep, you create that. The job you no longer love? That’s yours because you made it so. A mountain of “stuff” just to prove how successful you are? Yes? Me too!

This is important to understand when you are trying to create a new life, a new direction, a new dream! Because if you can create all that, you most certainly can design a life full of freedom and abundance and joy.

A life by design or default? Which do you choose?

Before I understood this important concept, I was living a life by default and thinking “If I’m lucky, I’ll live in the Caribbean one day.”

But here’s the thing. There was no “luck” at play. I simply didn’t enjoy this dream sooner because I didn’t understand that I needed to design it first!

It does take some planning to design your dream life, but it’s super fun! Grab some paper and a pen because I have some Dream Builder exercises to get you started.

First, list 5 things you would do if age, gender, time, money, education and experience were not factors.

1. ________________________________________________________________________
2. ________________________________________________________________________
3. ________________________________________________________________________
4. ________________________________________________________________________
5. ________________________________________________________________________

Okay, we’re on a roll!

Next, consider these four domains in life:

Z  health
Z  relationships
Z  creative expression
Z  financial supply

Now take a moment to brainstorm what each of these domains would look like for you if there were absolutely no obstacles in your way!

Lastly, make a list of the beliefs you’ve held onto that might be keeping you from your dream. For every negative, rewrite it in a positive way. Here’s an example:

  • Old belief: I need to work in a J.O.B. because I don’t have what it takes to work for myself.
  • New belief: I deserve to be my own boss and already have many of the skills I would need. I am willing to learn the rest.

That last exercise was a game-changer for me! I had to toss a ton of old beliefs in order to start living the life I wanted and deserved.

The results speak for themselves. In less than two years I have done what I used to think was impossible.

And YES, it is everything I imagined and more! I would never had made this happen without a plan. Now I’m living in Belize and helping others create the life they used to only dream about.

So get started on that dream plan because life is way too short to waste it on “one day” wishes!

Speaking of dream planning, I’m taking a select group of women to Bali next February for my Release ~ Rejoice ~ Redesign Retreat. It’s the perfect opportunity to create a plan to take your life and business to the next level. I have a few spots left so if you are interested, send me an email and we’ll set up a time for a brief chat. In the meantime, check out our mouth-watering trip page!

Until next time, create the life you deserve!

P.S. I’ve also started a Facebook group called the Freedom Lifestyle TRIBE. It’s a cool place to hang out if you’re interested in learning more about building a location-independent lifestyle. Please accept my personal invitation and join the TRIBE!
